As the AP’s Haven Daley reports, some ethicists and animal rights activists are condemning the offer. Lou Hawthorne, CEO, BioArts International, says: “She was extremely bright and extremely good with language. She would learn words very quickly. Toward the end of her life, she died at age 15 in 2002, you didn’t have to use commands with you. You just spoke to her and she’d understand.”BEFORE MISSY DIED, HAWTHORNE BANKED HER DNA. USING THE SAME TECHNOLOGY THAT CLONED DOLLY THE SHEEP, THE ENTREPRENEUR HAD SCIENTISTS IN SOUTH KOREA CLONE HIS BEST FRIEND, NOT ONCE BUT THREE TIMES. HE CALLS THEM HIS “NEAR MISSYS.”Lou Hawthorne, CEO, BioArts International, says: “Now that we have successfully clones Missy, “Missy Accomplished” we like to say, we’re looking at how to offer this service to the general public. Because our production capacity is relatively small and demand unknown but potentially vast, we think the only fair way to do this is by auction.”STARTING IN JULY FIVE WINNING ONLINE BIDDERS WILL HAVE THEIR DOGS CLONED. BIDDING FOR THE “BEST FRIENDS AGAIN” AUCTION STARTS AT 100 THOUSAND DOLLARS. THEY’RE ALSO AWARDING ONE FREE DOG CLONING TO THE OWNER WHO WRITES THE BEST ESSAY ABOUT THEIR PET.(dog chew toy nats)Haven Daley, The Associated Press: “But not everyone’s thrilled with the idea of dog cloning, especially with all the dogs out there waiting to be adopted.”Jean Donaldson, Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, says: “There’s no shortage of animals in this country. There are in fact dogs wanting homes. We don’t need to be creating dogs. Another thing, the technology’s not very well worked out. It’s not very safe and when there is a success and we’ve thrown all this money at it, quite often the animals turn out to have health problems.”HAWTHORNE SAYS HIS “NEAR MISSYS” ARE HEALTHY AND HAPPY AND THAT HIS CRITICS’ ARGUMENTS DON’T HOLD WATER.(dog water nats)Lou Hawthorne, CEO, BioArts International, says: “The World is overpopulated. Are you immoral for having children? I don’t think so. If you want to go to a shelter and get your next dog, do so. It’s a wonderful choice. It’s a very positive thing to do. If you won’t do go to a breeder, you can feel good about that as well as long as you go to a high-quality ethical breeder. Likewise, if you have an exceptional one-in-a-million dog, and usually these are mutts that can’t be reproduced any other way, you can feel fine about going to a cloning company.”RIGHT NOW HIS COMPANY HAS EXCLUSIVE LEGAL RIGHTS TO CLONE DOGS. Dog breeding facilities
Today, with the popularity of full bred dogs on the rise thanks to infamous celebrities like Paris Hilton carrying her full bred dog everywhere in her purse, the number of dog breeding facilities is also on the rise. Dog breeding facilities include dog breeders own facilities as well as public dog breeding facilities where dog breeders without enough space to breed their dogs on their own land can take their potential mates to mate. For the most part however, Mother Nature does not require a lot of space for two dogs to mate and thus dog breeding facilities are usually where dog breeders take care of their dogs from the start through the end of the dog breeder process. The start of the dog breeding process includes having a male and female dog mate, the middle of the process includes the gestation period for the female dog and her prenatal care, and the conclusion of the process includes the birthing of the puppies, as well as the initial caretaking of the puppies, their weaning, and finally their sale. Dog breeding facilities should be nice and clean and offer a lot of space for pregnant mothers as well as growing puppies. If you are a potential customer, a dog breeder should allow you to inspect his or her dog breeding facilities to ensure that it is up to your standards. Animal control is also required to habitually check dog breeding facilities, so make sure to ask to view the dog breeder’s inspection certificates. If the dog breeder refuses to show you these certificates or says he or she does not have them, run, do not walk, to the exit. Buying a puppy from dog breeding facilities that are not clean and not managed properly will almost ensure that you will have a sick puppy on your hands. When checking out dog breeding facilities, make sure to also note how many puppies the breeder has on hand. If it seems like a ridiculous amount of puppies, then you have probably stumbled upon a dog breeding facility that is a puppy mill. Puppy mills are dog breeding facilities where the dog breeder breeds his or her dogs as much as possible without any concern to the health of his or her dogs. Puppy mill dog breeders will also not care for puppies as well as they should. All puppy mill dog breeders care about is the money they will get for their puppies. Try to avoid buying a dog from a puppy mill; such dog breeding facilities are illegal and very bad for the reputation of dog breeders everywhere.
